Pick Up America is the nation’s first coast-to-coast roadside litter pickup. Our mission is to pick up trash across the country, educate, and encourage a transition toward zero waste. Through community litter clean-ups and outreach events, the Pick Up Artists encourage alternatives to our nation’s throwaway mentality. The trek began at Assateague Island, Md., in March 2010 and plans to span 13 states to the San Francisco Bay in November 2012. Come walk a few miles, will ya?

Single-Stream is a way to recycle. You fill up a bin with many types of recyclables. Then that bin gets dumped into a “stream” of other recyclables, and each resource gets sorted out at the recycling center. Single-Stream is a convenient way for consumers to recycle resources. We call our blog Single-Stream, ‘cause we also throw a bunch of stuff (blog content) together into a “single-stream.” You’re the recycler. Go ahead, sort through our blogs and find what you like! Don’t be afraid to contribute as well :)

That’s why we pick up roadside litter and show people what we find, but it's not enough for our story to be heard through the press alone. Our project is focused on raising awareness and empowering communities to transform themselves. Let us meet your community and be a part of it. We're walking across the country picking up trash because it's fun! Well, we are having a good time, but really we are walking across the country to draw attention for the zero waste movement.
